A hush descends around the room as the lone piper begins to play. The steaming Haggis, carried aloft on a silver platter, enters the room for all to see. The toast is said, the Haggis stabbed and the whisky drunk...
So begins the PTA’s annual Burns Night celebrations with 150 revellers sitting down to a hearty meal of haggis, tatties and neeps all washed down with copious amounts wine, ale and whisky. This was followed by remarkably controlled cavorting around, directed by the caller who had the room spinning as one (and occasionally falling as one as well).
A huge thank-you must go out to all the committee who put in so much time before, during and the ‘dreaded after’ to ensure the evening was such a success.
Ivy and various other garden shrubs needed to be sourced from gardens around the village and then transformed into fabulous wall and table decorations.
Food needed to be bought, prepared, cooked and served. The bar stocked and manned and raffle prizes sourced, wrapped and tickets sold. A huge thank-you must go out to those who donated items to the raffle.
Drinking and dancing continued late into the night before the long struggle home.
Without the committee’s willingness to give up their free time these events wouldn’t happen. A thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all, with substantial funds raised for the school.
